1. Locate and open the App Store on your IOS mobile device

One fine Sunday morning, I visited the Inland Empire Mall in San Bernardino, California, with a friend and bought a pair of flat shoes. On first glance, they looked pretty comfy and I immediately slipped my feet in; I remembered thinking “these feel pretty snug- probably because they are right off the rack”.
I was extra motivated to buy these shoes because they were also discounted that day, “what a steal!” I thought to myself as I swiped my card to purchase and hurried out to store before they could change their mind about the discount.
The next day was a Monday, a school day for me at the time, so I carefully selected the right skirt and blouse to matched my “new shoes”, and off to classes I went.
The 5-minute walk to class wasn’t exactly the greatest. I thought I just needed to ‘break into the new shoes’ as the flats felt rather stiff. As I crossed the intersection, I said to myself “maybe I should have just worn my old pair”.
By this time I had caught up with two friends who were also on their way to class. They both complimented my “new shoes”- that immediately made me feel a little better, “maybe it will be worth the pain”. I’ll be brave, I can do this!” I thought to myself, trying to hide the pain.
Lucky for me, the class was 4 hours long; I walked into the hall, grabbed the first available seat, slipped my feet out of the shoes and breathed a much needed sigh of relief!
I soon forgot about the pain of walking to class and continued to enjoy the rest of the lecture. Alas, the end of the class came and as I stood up and slipped my feet into those shoes, I instantly REMEMBERED!
I immediately started all sorts of calculations and permutations in my head- I was thinking about the distance from my class to my dorm room and if that was inversely proportional to the measure of my pain. I wondered how many steps it is take to walk from this class to my room. What I would have given to have a pair of wings!
The walk back to the dorm felt like the LONGEST walk I had ever done. Each step was HELL. I could see my dorm building but each step seemed like I was getting farther away from it.
PAIN!!! I wanted to take off the flats and walk barefoot; pride or shame prevented me from doing so. I felt like I had a reputation to protect. Like someone was watching me. A DAMN SHAME.
At the dorm where I lived, there was a table tagged “free table”. Everything on that table was up for grabs (free of charge). I remember removing the shoes as I walked past the free table and dropping them there. Good riddance!
Sadly, this was not the first time I had found myself in such situation. So many times I have sworn NEVER again to wear painful shoes, but somehow it always comes to this. Don’t be like me.
Comfort is key and that is a lesson I learned the hard way. Remove those stilettos and FREE YOUR TOES. You see, many women I know choose style over comfort over and over again. We often voluntarily go with the pain. Oh what needless pain we bear!

I am in no way suggesting that you ditch your high heeled shoes for flats or slippers, but at least have a backup plan. The next time you feel that pinch, ache or pain, go ahead and change into comfortable shoes.

I just celebrated my Birthday a few days ago. I was a born In a little town in Eastern Nigeria over 3 decades ago. When I was born, healthcare was not the greatest in Nigeria; infant and maternal mortality rates were extremely high. Sadly, not much has changed.
I now live in America, and the risk of maternal mortality among black women persists after controlling for socioeconomic status.
Black women experience maternal deaths at three to four times that of non- Hispanic white women.
“For many African American Mothers, the news of pregnancy also comes with a lingering fear of the quality of healthcare that she will receive during this amazing journey.
This should not be the case!

Do you ever get the feeling that you waste so much time looking for stuff? I just completed a 5-Day intensive search for the spare keys to our home.
One minute I had them, and next thing they were GONE! The worst part was that I had just returned a rental car, so I had the feeling that maybe just maybe I left the keys in the rental car.
Late last night, while watching an episode of “The Office” on Netflix, a still small voice whispered to me to “raise the couch” . Alas, there it was, sitting pretty!
So many times during “the search” I caught myself saying “I wish I could just CALL my keys!”
Don’t get me started with how many times I search for my Roku TV remote control. Ish!!!
Thankfully, I have a TV mobile remote control app on my phone so I use that everytime my remote control decides to magically disappear.
When I found the devices that allow you to track your lost items, I said to myself “Ozi you have to share this”!
Can you imagine all the time and heartaches your could save with these little devices?
All you have to do is hook your precious items (that spontaneously develop legs and walk away for you) to these tiny little trackers.

Sometimes things do not work out the way we hope or plan. What do you do in the face of misfortune or adversity? What do you do when life hands you lemons?
last Tuesday on my way to work, my car was rear ended by another driver. Worse still he/she drove away. It was my first time experiencing anything like this, and I was beyond confused to say the least.
I had no idea what to do. So I called my husband. He advised me to hang up and call the police as well as our auto insurance company. After making these 2 calls, I decided to google what exactly happens in a hit and run accident.
If its never happened to you, then I hope you never have to use this information. But who are we kidding? Life happens even to the “luckiest” of us all, and it is definitely better to have the information now, than to be sorry later.
Getting into an auto accident is the worst nightmare for most drivers, and when it happens and the guilty party runs away, it leaves the victim ( the driver/person who was hit) feeling completely helpless ( I know I felt this way on tuesday).
1. Try to get as much information on the other driver as you possibly can.
In a sane world, when people hit others in traffic, the cars involved safely clear to the right shoulder and then exchange insurance information. Witnesses also stop to give their own sides of the story. But that did not happen to me. Everyone was trying to get to work, so there was no witness report. The car that hit mine sped away.
Now if you are in a position to do so, get as much information about the car that hit yours. Information like the license plate number, color, make and model of the car , gender of the driver, time and location of the accident and few pictures of the damage. You can take pictures using your smartphone. Hitting another vehicle and running away without exchanging insurance information is a federal crime. All the information you gather will help the police catch the culprit.
2. Call the Police
Call the police ASAP. In a hit and run accident where another driver has damaged your vehicle, your insurance company considers it a “not-at-fault” loss. The damage is generally covered under the collision section of your car insurance policy, meaning you will need to pay your collision deductible. However, your insurance company will only cover this cost if they get an official report from the police, to show that it was indeed a hit and run accident.
This coverage is optional and most drivers opt out of it; to reduce their insurance fees. Without this coverage, in the event of a hit and run accident, you will be left to cover the costs yourself. So you need to call the police immediately. A hit and run should not impact your premium as long as you have reported the incident to the police.
“3. Call your auto insurance company
Be prepared to provide as much details of the accident as you can to your insurance company. This allows them to process the claim ASAP. If you have any injuries from the crash that you want to get checked out for, make sure you ask them for your claim number so that all your medical bills will be sent directly to the insurance company.

Finally to everyone, Make sure that when you get insurance coverage you read the fine prints. Know exactly what your premium covers. Get more coverage if you can. Unexpected things DO happen, best to be prepared.

Last week, I did quite the adult thing, I turned down MONEY! This is infact a first for me, especially in relation to my professional life, and I have to tell you it felt absolutely WEIRD!
It even kinda hurt too, but I did it for the greater good. It also got me thinking about all the different reasons that people may have for giving up an offer that to others looked “Just too good to miss”.
On this podcast episode, Adé and I discuss 3 major reasons we think would make people “leave money on the table” so to speak.
1. Moral Reasons. Sometimes an offer just goes against all you believe in. Adé shared a personal experience of a time when he had to let an offer go, for moral reasons.
2. Big Picture
Sometimes accepting an offer may stir you away from your desired goals or profession and only serve to waste your time and set you back a couple of years.
“3. Mental Health
How will your health be impacted by the new job? Will your stress levels increase? Is it worth the Stress?
Studies show that working long hours at work can negatively impact your well being and lead to poor health and developement of unhealthy habits.

One of the things I found really difficult to understand when I moved to America was how my credit score would affect my everyday life. I never owned a credit card until I moved to America, and after a few people convinced me that I needed one, then came the financial responsibility of using the card.
I went from a non existent credit history to a decent score, and made lots mistakes along the way.
My guest on this episode Janessa Burell (@only1janessa) gives useful tips on how to “secure the bag” by getting rid of debt, and building a strong credit history.
It can be pretty difficult to build credit when you first move to a new country.
Here are a few tips for new immigrants and students with a non-existent credit history to begin to build credit.
1. Get a secure card.
2. Get someone with established credit be a co-signer on your credit application.
3. Payment for rent can count towards your credit history.
“Securing the bag” is not limited to wealth aquisition, it also has a lot to so with how you manage your finances. So when you eventually get your credit card, and you are successfully on your way to building good credit, take the time to learn how to use a credit card, so that you stay out of debt.
