New Year Same You

I started the Tales of an African Princess in America podcast (#TAPApodcast) in February 2018, to share my experiences, as an African woman in America. I believe in the transformative power of stories. I try to inspire young girls to seek further education in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) by sharing my story. On the podcast, I also advocate for healthcare. I believe that we make the best choices when we are well informed. So this year, I want  to arm you with practical tools to help you jumpstart to a healthy and productive 2020. I will be giving out gifts to 4 lucky winners, so please keep reading.

My Name is Dr. Ozi. I am the Host of the Tales of an African Princess in America Podcast

In 2019, so many amazing things happened on #TAPAPpodcast. We released our 90th episode, started a youtube channel, and cohosted our very first live podcast in Texas USA!!!!.

To top it all, my husband and I finally got our green cards, without the need for a sponsor or lawyers. We both came to the US on student visas and were able to go directly from F-1 student visas to US permanent residents. If you are an immigrant in America, you know the struggle.

I wrote an ebook about the entire process, so feel free to download your free copy today.

It’s that time of the year again. Time to make new year resolutions. We each promise ourselves that we will do better, and we all try to, but according to professionals, January 12th is the day most people ditch the resolutionsSo this year, I come bearing gifts to help you hold on to 3 easy and practical new year resolutions.

1. Know Your Numbers

It is incredibly difficult to get replacement organs, so please take good care of yourself in 2020. Last year my primary physician told me I needed to be mindful of my blood pressure (granted I was running late for those appointments and found myself always racing to meet them). I had no idea that was an issue untill she brought it to my attention, so MY FIRST GIFT to a lucky winner is a free Balance Bluetooth Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor.

Get familiar with your Body Mass Index (BMI).  Go for yearly physicals and when there is a need to make a change, please do the needful, even if it means putting down the drumsticks and wings.

Talk to your healthcare provider to learn about your Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar and BMI (Body Mass Index).

2. Eat Right

Life is too short to starve yourself!! so quit the ridiculous diets and embrace portion control. On episode 58 of the podcast, I invited a Registered Dietician Abigail Clarke who encouraged us to eat with your hands, as a way to manage weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you missed that episode please click on this link to catch up. To help you eat the right portions of food this year, MY NEXT GIFT to a lucky winner is a free digital food scale with nutritional facts.

I found myself sucking in my belly in photos in 2019. In 2020, NONE OF THAT!!! Last year I was the heaviest I have ever been. One thing they don’t tell you about the early years of marriage is the weight gain. Some call it the “peace of mind” weight gain, or “happiness” weight gain. I felt fatigued all the time, constantly making excuses and tired. Eventually, I went back to the drawing board and started slowly exercising again.

3. Exercise

It is very important to maintain a healthy body weight. Your BMI is a vital key to monitoring your weight.

so I’ve decided that the NEXT GIFT for one lucky winner a will be a Free Bluetooth Smart Body Fat Scale with Large Digital Backlit

Health is wealth! I know you probably have goals to save more money, get a better job, or to see the world, but to crush those goals, you need good health and a sound mind. So take care of yourself.

My Fourth and Final gift is a FREE Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale (White, Tempered Glass, 400 Pound Max, Backlit Shine Through Display).

I hope that with these gifts, I encourage you to get fit in 2020.

RULES: To win any of the prizes, in the comment section below, tell me;

  1. share one win you had in year 2019
  2. what your new year resolution is, and how any of the gifts will help you meet your year 2020 goals.

Winners will be announced on the first episode of the Tales of an African Princess in America Podcast for year 2020 (January 2, 2020).

This giveaway is open for US residents only. Please share this post with a friend on your favorite social media network (WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype, Pinterest, Twitter, or LinkedIn or by email).

Yes to all the wins for TAPA podcast! My win in 2019 are numerous but most important is a clean bill of health for myself and kids. The Devil tried it BUT God!

My 2020 resolution is finding inner peace and strength to walk away from things that do not serve me. Another goal is to complete my program in school while successfully managing work and family life.

With gift #2 being the digital scale, I believe this will aid in setting control while eating and enable me to attain goals in portion control and overall healthy eating.

One of my major wins this year was running my tax and accounting practice full time for entire year! I’m really proud of myself for that:)
In 2020, as I continue a healthier lifestyle, i feel like there’s room for improvement. As much as I went to the gym, my eating habits were not that great. Having a food scale would definitely with better portion control in 2020.

      2. #TAPApodcast says:

Congratulations on successfully running your tax and accounting practice full time for an entire year!! wow, that’s HUGE!!!!! It takes courage to start and continually run a business.

I wish you greater success in 2020; in your business and healthy lifestyle choices.

2019 was an anxiety year for me, I say was because I’m over it and ready for 2020. I had a number of goals to achieve; having fun, work, school, health wise and God. I had so many wins in 2019 and as much I will identify what God did for me just to show His love but the biggest win was knowing God. Some love him, know about his existence but don’t actually know Him know Him like the Bible says and that was it for me.
2020 is looking scary already, I have a free schedule and its kinda hard to plan it because I have some plans in mind; getting a job for OPT, using the gym thats a 5 minutes walk from my apartment, peace of mind and more.
The No.2 gift is a perfect gift for me as I start my 2020 gym routine. I have a serious portion control problem. I can finish half of a whole slice bread. I have read pamphlets teaching how to eat slowly, when to eat and other things that educate me on how to not over eat, but unconsciously I always over eat. I feel with this gift in my kitchen I will be able to be reminded and get in the habit of eating proportionally.
Thank You for the opportunity to winnings No.2 Dr Ozi. Happy Holidays.

      Hi Dami,

I am so happy that you experienced several wins in 2019. Life is full of ups and downs but it is all about perspective. Trust that in the end, all things will work out for good. Just continue to do your best and make good use of the opportunities you have. Your bread problem sounds so familiar trust me. I struggle with that as well because I eat bread with everything! I’ve also noticed that seating on my sofa to watch TV shows triggers unnecessary snack time for me so I’ve decided to watch my favorite shows while on the treadmill. Also I fill my refrigerator with fruits and vegetables that way I can snack on carrots, apples, and mangoes, instead of the usual “junk”.

Tune in to the Tales of an African Princess in America podcast on January 2, 2020 to learn if you are one of the lucky winners!

      Good luck.

      1. Dami says:

Thank You for the advice and interesting approach at the treadmill. I’ve tried stuffing my house with fruits but they go bad so quick. I need help on how to buy groceries that is enough for one person. Adulthood…….. sigh
I look forward to Jan 2nd.
